Parade Time

This is a picture from last year’s Calgary Stampede parade. When it comes to capturing pictures of people, I’ve never been very successful. However, I feel that in this image I was able to shake whatever bugaboo has been haunting me.
One of my favorite stories is when I was a staff photographer for my college newspaper, we needed a last minute picture of the new student body officers. I was the only photographer in at the moment so the reporter and I ran over to get the photo, for which we had time for only one shot. When I developed the photo we came to discover that all four subjects blinked at the exact same time as I captured the image.
Lake Louise

This is one of the toughest photographs to get. With the “very” bright glaciers and the dark slopes of the valley all surrounding the teal-blue lake, the camera (and the photographer) have a hard time deciding what to expose for. For this photo, it didn’t help that I was there near Noon, which is one of the worst times of the day to get a picture due to the intensity of the light. Regardless of all this … wow, what a beautiful place, Lake Louise.
